The western side of the northern Coromandel has some great inshore fishing with
Snapper, Kahawai, Gurnard, Trevally and Kingfish in good numbers.
Unlike the eastern side, which is an ocean environment, the western side is part of the Hauraki Gulf /Firth of Thames environment.
This means you are fishing shallower water, that is a flat mud and shell plain meeting estuarine and rock reef ecosystems.
Coromandel have a host of charter vessels, which provide a great boat based fishing experience.
But if you have a boat of your own and just need a few tips on the style of fishing and few spots to try in the Colville Bay area and surrounds, then guide Nathan McCauley could be just the help needed to get you started on a fantastic piece of coastline.
If you’d like a bit more of a challenge or boats aren’t for you, enjoy a day fishing off the shore line in spots that have some great coastal views, while trying out some local tricks in the shallows.
