The area is blessed with some great sandy beachs, such as :
Waitete Bay :
Situated between Papa Aroha and Colville this beach is a great safe
swimming beach. An excellent beach for the kids!
Otautu Bay :
A beach with a big history and another sandy beach that provides safe swimming
and great fishing. It’s the last sandy beach ( on the Western side) until you
reach Port Jackson.
Port Jackson :
Wow! This is a stunning long beach, great fishing, camping and swimming area
with a big history .
Fletcher Bay :
The end of the line.... Want to get away from it all ?- Well try this!
Not only is it the beginning/end of one of New Zealands great walks, it also provides
fantastic swimming and fishing with breath taking views.
Sandy Bay (Port Charles):
Situated between Port Charles and Stony Bay campground,
this beach is a safe sandy beach to swim and play on.
It boasts stunning views and is located at the foot of Moehau mountain,which
is listed as one of the significant environmental areas which the
Department of Conservation administers.
Waikawau Bay:
One of the jewels of the Coromandel, with intensive evironment
programs in place to enhance waterway and sand dune biodiversity.
Apart from the campground at the southern end,this beach has no development
on or next to it. Instead you can experience a fantastic long sandy ocean beach
with all the ecosystems that a dune environment should have!
With the right conditions this beach can produce some great surf !
Little Bay :
This beach lies just south of Waikawau below a little bach settlement
A small intimate sandy beach which provides a good place to swim and fish,
The kids will love it!
Public Walkways : The Northern end of the Penisula has some fantastic walks!
Fantail Bay Track: Steep track leaves the campground and leads to the bush line . Outstanding views!(Approx 3hrs)
Muriwai Track: Fantastic sea views. Starts at Port Jackson and has stunning views of the gulf (2 hrs return)
Coromandel Walkway: Great coastal views. Runs between Fletchers Bay and Stony Bay ( 3 hrs one way,6hrs return)
Waikawau Bay(Matamataharakeke Track) : Starts at Waikawau Bay DOC Camp , Steep with great views (3hr circuit)
